Green Datacenter Development is advancing plans for a 200MW data center campus in Schladen-Werla, Germany.

A connection request for a 200MW data center in Schladen-Werla, central Germany, has been approved by the local grid operator. Municipal authorities approved the facility's inclusion in the area's development plan in April. The project, led by Green Datacenter Development (GDD), is planned for a plot of more than 14 hectares outside the town in Lower Saxony, with operations targeted to begin as early as 2030.

GDD first proposed the facility in 2025. Headquartered in Cremlingen, Lower Saxony, and employing 300 staff to develop and operate wind and solar parks, the company envisions the data center supporting both AI and cloud applications. The development will include a waste heat distribution network serving homes and businesses throughout the municipality, with power drawn from local solar and wind farms. Next steps include securing tenants and refining construction plans. If completed, this will be GDD's first data center.

The project reflects growing data center investment in Lower Saxony. Earlier this month, renewable energy firm Friesen Elektra announced it was exploring the feasibility of building a data center at its green hydrogen production facility in Sande. This follows Telis Energie Deutschland's April announcement of a 500MW data center campus outside Hanover.
