South Korean telecom subsidiary KT Cloud announced a 50 MW data center project in Incheon, with KT Cloud serving as the design, build, and operate partner.
KT Cloud is constructing a 50MW data center in Cheongna district, Incheon, greater Seoul, as part of a significant expansion of its AI infrastructure footprint. The facility will span two basement levels and 11 above-ground floors, with construction scheduled to begin in Q4 2025 and completion targeted for Q1 2030.
KT Cloud is serving as the design, build, and operate (DBO) partner for the project, overseeing development including design, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works, and commissioning. Hyundai Engineering is the joint contractor, responsible for architectural, civil, equipment, landscaping, and telecommunications works.
The data center will support both AI infrastructure and cloud workloads, featuring a dedicated "AI zone" with direct-to-chip liquid cooling, separated from the "cloud zone." KT Cloud plans to link the facility to its other regional installations to enhance network continuity and meet expansion requirements from customers.
The Cheongna project is part of KT Cloud's broader capacity expansion. The company has revised its targets upward, now aiming for 1GW of data center capacity by 2031, up from its previously stated aim of 320MW by 2030. KT Cloud already operates a 10MW facility in Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, a 26MW data center in Seoul's Geumcheon District, and a 30MW installation in Dae Bong Dong. Datacenters.com lists 16 KT Cloud data centers across Korea in total.
CEO Kim Bong-kyun said: "We expect the Cheongna AI data center to serve as a key hub in the western cluster of the capital region and to respond effectively to demand from domestic and overseas corporate customers that require large-scale AI infrastructure. We will continue to expand our AI data center supply base both inside and outside the capital region, and give concrete shape to our 1GW AI data center goal based on differentiated technological capabilities."
