KEEL consolidates three former Bitcoin mining sites into a single 96 MW AI campus in Sherbrooke after securing city approval.
Keel Infrastructure, the company formerly known as Bitfarms, has secured approval from the City of Sherbrooke to consolidate three Bitcoin mining facilities into a single 96 MW campus designed for AI and high-performance computing. The approval was granted on July 13, 2026.
The project covers a land sale valued at approximately $2.2 million CAD and is positioned as one of Québec's largest data center developments, with the campus expected to be lease-ready by 2027. The three facilities being consolidated are The Bunker (48 MW), Leger (30 MW), and Garlock (18 MW), which together deliver the full 96 MW capacity. The development will span approximately 16,400 square meters. The land purchase agreement is expected to close in Q1 2027, contingent on further regulatory reviews.
KEEL rebranded from Bitfarms effective April 1, 2026, marking a strategic shift toward data center development while maintaining its legacy Bitcoin mining operations. The company had established a power agreement with Hydro-Sherbrooke in 2018, which laid the foundation for developing the three sites originally used for cryptocurrency mining.
The Sherbrooke campus is part of KEEL's broader $1.8 billion initiative to build data center infrastructure across North America. The company claims a 2.2 GW pipeline that, if fully developed, would position it among the continent's most ambitious high-performance computing infrastructure players. KEEL trades on both Nasdaq and the TSX under the ticker KEEL, providing access to both US and Canadian capital markets.
