Arizton's latest report highlights the rapid expansion of Southeast Asia's data center market, projecting investments to rise from $15.72 billion in 2025 to $35.08 billion by 2031 at a CAGR of 14.32 percent. The region currently operates 306 data centers across nine key countries, with an additional 173 facilities in development. Planned capacity is nearly four times the current operational footprint, reflecting surging infrastructure needs for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data, edge computing, and IoT. The comprehensive 296-page analysis covers seven countries, 244 companies, and ten market segments, examining facility types, electrical and mechanical infrastructure, cooling systems, tier standards, and geographic distribution.

Malaysia leads the regional pipeline with over 6 GW of upcoming IT load, particularly through its Johor hub near the Singapore border. In September 2025, Chinese operator ZDATA Technologies sought a $500 million loan to finance a new facility in Gelang Patah, Johor Bahru. The Malaysian government is actively fostering an AI ecosystem through foreign direct investment and strategic programs, while simultaneously targeting 70 percent renewable energy in its power mix by 2050 via solar, hydropower, and green hydrogen initiatives. Competitive land and energy costs continue to attract substantial capital compared to neighboring Singapore.

Singapore remains a premier investment destination despite severe land constraints and high development costs. As of December 2025, the city-state hosts 45 operational data centers containing 5,101.4 thousand sq ft of white floor space, alongside six upcoming projects totaling approximately 652.5 thousand sq ft. Future growth will prioritize high-efficiency, high-density, and sustainable facilities rather than sheer volume. The newly established Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone is expected to alleviate supply bottlenecks and further stimulate cross-border data center development.

Indonesia stands as one of the largest operational markets, anchored by Jakarta and surrounding regions. In May 2025, Microsoft inaugurated its first Indonesian data center, a project projected to inject $2.5 billion into the economy, generate 60,000 jobs by 2028, and fund digital training for one million people, including 840,000 already engaged in AI capability-building. To support energy-intensive operations, Indonesia aims to source more than 48 percent of its electricity from renewables by 2030 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. The nation is also advancing its 100 Smart Cities Movement, featuring technology-driven urban solutions in Jakarta and the sustainable forest city of Nusantara.

Thailand is emerging as a major growth market with around 3.5 GW of future capacity, centered in Bangkok. The Thai government supports this expansion through its Thailand 4.0 initiative, which includes a cloud-first policy mandating public sector adoption of cloud services, and a target of developing 100 smart cities by 2040. Foreign investors benefit from flexible ownership rules, pre-approved energy and fiber infrastructure, and incentives under the EEC. Established colocation providers such as ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, AIS Business (CSL), OneAsia Network, True IDC, Internet Thailand, Telehouse, and SUPERNAP Thailand are driving local development.

The Philippines is increasingly viewed as a cost-competitive alternative to pricier regional hubs, leveraging its strategic geography and expanding subsea connectivity to attract data center investment. Across the region, sustained capital inflows and policy alignment are positioning Southeast Asia as a critical global node for next-generation digital infrastructure.
