OpenAI, UAE-based G42 and ADNOC have announced a multi-year AI initiative partnership.
OpenAI, G42, and ADNOC have entered a multi-year partnership to implement OpenAI's Frontier technology across parts of ADNOC's energy value chain. The deployment will run on UAE-based sovereign AI computing infrastructure provided by G42, bringing together OpenAI's frontier models with ADNOC's operational knowledge and industrial records.
ADNOC stated that human specialists will maintain supervision over consequential decisions. Additionally, OpenAI and ADNOC will co-create AI systems and conduct employee training.
UAE Industry and Advanced Technology Minister and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said: "Through this landmark partnership with OpenAI and G42, ADNOC is taking a major step towards connecting intelligence across our entire business, combining world-leading AI with decades of industrial expertise to make better decisions, unlock greater value and strengthen energy security."
Initial work under the tie-up will target two primary use cases. The first involves field master planning, which merges subsurface, facility, and economic analyses into a unified development-planning procedure. This system will draw on decades of data covering thousands of wells, multiple reservoirs, and hundreds of surface installations, combined with commercial, capital, and expenditure considerations.
The second use case will link information spanning ADNOC's refining, processing, production, logistics, sales, and trading activities. Interconnected AI agents will project crude oil supply, demand, prices, and margins, while examining the commercial and operational consequences of choices made across the value chain.
The arrangement will expand on ADNOC's existing AI infrastructure, including its ENERGYai subsurface platform. ADNOC stated that it has upwards of 200 AI applications and 70 robotics use cases either operating or in development.
ADNOC has deployed ChatGPT Enterprise to more than 40,000 staff members, with an adoption rate above 97%.
The deal also covers OpenAI's Daybreak Blue initiative, which will bolster ADNOC's cyber defence programmes by identifying vulnerabilities and safeguarding critical energy infrastructure.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman added: "By combining frontier AI, sovereign infrastructure and industry expertise, this first-of-its-kind partnership will help ADNOC move faster, operate more efficiently and make better decisions across the energy value chain."
