Taiwanese data center and telecoms firm Chief Telecom has broken ground on a new facility.

The site covers 1.5 hectares in the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) Huwei Park, Huwei Township, Yunlin County. When completed, the facility will total 16MW across 3,335 square meters (35,897 square feet). The data center will support both air-cooled and water-cooled cooling solutions.

The total investment is approximately NT$3.3 billion (US$101 million). Official operations are expected to begin in the second half of 2028.

In an August update, Chief said that prospective clients had signed letters of intent (LOIs) covering more than 50 percent of the site's available capacity.

Founded in 1991, Chief Telecom is primarily a data center operator, with four data centers in Taipei, Taiwan's capital. The company is owned by Taiwanese telecoms giant Chunghwa Telecom and also provides cloud and networking services. It runs the Taipei Internet eXchange (TPIX).

In late 2024, Chief launched its Liyuan 2 (LY2) facility. The 20MW site has 160,000 square feet (14,865 square meters) of floor space across seven floors and reportedly offers 10–150kW per rack, supporting both air and liquid cooling.
