Wistron's new D1 facility in Fort Worth officially opened today with NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang and Wistron Chairman Simon Lin presiding over the ceremony. The state-of-the-art plant represents a $700 million investment in advanced manufacturing and has already created over 500 jobs, with plans to expand to 1,000 jobs by year end.

The facility currently operates two manufacturing cells: one producing the NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip and another preparing to produce the NVIDIA Vera Rubin Superchip. The plant is scaling production this year to output tens of thousands of boards per month of the industry's most advanced technology.

Jensen Huang emphasized the importance of domestic manufacturing capacity for the AI era. "Manufacturing is an essential pillar for every economy and every country. Building chip plants, packaging plants, computer system plants like this, and AI factories all over the United States, has allowed the United States to really reindustrialize for the first time in a long time." The investment is creating jobs across multiple sectors, including plumbing, construction, manufacturing, and electrical work.

Wistron designed and fully simulated the entire facility using a digital twin built on NVIDIA's open platform, incorporating Nemotron and Cosmos frontier models, Omniverse and Metropolis libraries, and open frameworks like PhysicsNeMo. This approach allowed engineers to validate assembly line layouts, optimize production processes, and train workers on standard procedures virtually before any systems went live.

The GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip that Huang signed at the ceremony represents the scale of manufacturing now underway. Each unit contains one and a half million parts, weighs two tons, and costs four million dollars. Huang described it as "the most powerful AI supercomputer in the world" and noted that the facility is "producing them like phones, cranking them out in volume because the world needs all of these machines to drive the intelligence infrastructure."

Huang cast AI factories as fundamental infrastructure for society, comparable to roads, railroads, and agriculture in their importance to human civilization.
