Transmart Advances Soft Magnetic Core Technology for High-Frequency Power and AI Data Center Applications
The manufacturer expands its North American customer base while combining nanocrystalline, amorphous and silicon steel technologies with 12–14 μm ribbon processing and custom core manufacturing
, /PRNewswire/ -- Transmart Industrial Limited (Transmart) , a manufacturer of soft magnetic materials and transformer cores, is putting its nanocrystalline, amorphous and silicon steel core technologies to work for customers building power infrastructure and AI data centers. Power electronics are trending toward higher switching frequencies and greater power density, and the performance of the core material inside a transformer, inductor or filter has become an increasingly important factor in overall system efficiency and size.
A Transmart production line worker processes soft magnetic core components as part of the company’s manufacturing operations for nanocrystalline, amorphous and silicon steel magnetic products.
25 Years Focused on Soft Magnetic Materials
Transmart has spent more than 25 years focused on soft magnetic materials and transformer core manufacturing. The company operates as an integrated trade and manufacturing enterprise, running two dedicated production facilities in China. One facility is centered on silicon steel cores, current sensor cores and instrument transformer cores. The other is dedicated to nanocrystalline cores, amorphous cores and common mode chokes. Both facilities operate under internationally recognized quality systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and IATF 16949 certification.
Transmart currently serves customers in more than 50 countries, with a customer base concentrated primarily in Europe. As a tape wound core manufacturer, the company positions itself as a one-stop supplier across the soft magnetic core value chain, covering everything from raw ribbon and lamination processing to finished, wound components. This is supported by free common mode choke (CMC) solution design, OEM customization, and on-demand thickness and material formulation development.
The Science of Thin: 12–14μm Ribbon
At the center of Transmart's technology platform is its ability to manufacture nanocrystalline ribbon at 12 to 14 micrometers, a specification achieved by only a small number of manufacturers worldwide. Thinner ribbon reduces eddy-current losses at high frequencies. This allows engineers to design transformers, inductors and filters that run cooler and can be made smaller and lighter for a given power rating.
Transmart supports this capability with a set of self-developed, patented production lines covering precision slitting, automatic winding, vacuum annealing and multi-wire cutting. These production lines give Transmart control over ribbon dimensions, magnetic properties and core geometry throughout the manufacturing process. The company's nanocrystalline cut cores achieve core losses as low as 0.4 W/kg under 20 kHz, 50 mT test conditions. Its 3000-permeability low-permeability nanocrystalline ribbon is engineered specifically for high-frequency transformer applications, where controlled permeability helps stabilize performance across a wide frequency range.
Transmart's amorphous core portfolio adds to this platform for applications that call for lower switching frequencies and high energy efficiency, including toroidal, C-core, E-core, block and amorphous stator core geometries.
Silicon Steel: Still the Foundation
Alongside its nanocrystalline and amorphous technologies, Transmart maintains a full-range grain-oriented silicon steel platform. The company supplies material across the full standard thickness range, from 0.05 mm up to 0.35 mm, in increments of 0.05 mm, 0.10 mm, 0.18 mm, 0.20 mm, 0.23 mm, 0.27 mm, 0.30 mm and 0.35 mm, and across a full range of core geometries, including toroidal, split, C-core, E-core, block, rectangular, oval and multi-cut cores. Silicon steel remains a proven, cost-effective foundation for high-volume power and distribution applications, and it gives Transmart customers a single source across both established and emerging soft magnetic material technologies.
From Grids to Data Centers
Transmart's core technologies are engineered for a broad set of applications across power infrastructure and power electronics, including:
Power grid and distribution: transformer cores and instrument transformer cores for current and voltage sensing
AI data centers: magnetic cores for high-frequency power conversion, filtering and current sensing in high-density computing power architectures
Renewable energy: cores for solar and wind inverter systems
EV charging infrastructure: cores supporting power conversion in charging equipment
EMI/EMC filtering: common mode chokes for noise suppression in switched-mode power systems
Current and instrument sensing: nanocrystalline and mumetal cores for precision current transformers
"As power systems move toward higher frequencies and greater density, the performance of the core material becomes one of the defining factors in system design," said Richard LONG, Director of Transmart. "That is true in power grid upgrades, and it is increasingly true in AI data center power architecture. Looking ahead, North America is a market where we see that shift happening quickly, and where we want to grow our engagement with customers and partners."
Eyes on North America
Transmart's customer base has historically been concentrated in Europe, and the company is now placing growing emphasis on serving customers in North America. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's January 2026 Short-Term Energy Outlook , U.S. electricity consumption is projected to rise 1% in 2026 and accelerate to 3% in 2027. This marks the strongest four-year growth streak in U.S. electricity demand since 2000, and the first time since 2007 that demand has risen for four consecutive years. The EIA attributes much of this growth to the rapid expansion of large-scale computing facilities and AI workloads.
