Nebius Faces a Fortnight That Could Settle the Bull-Bear Argument

There is a number that captures the Nebius dilemma better than any chart: 246 percent. That is the stock's twelve-month gain. There is another that captures the tension equally well: minus 18 percent. That is what the shares did in July alone. Both figures are true simultaneously, and that contradiction is precisely why the AI-infrastructure group has become the market's favourite mood ring.

The shares closed Friday at EUR 164.90, up 0.94 percent on the day. The next real catalyst arrives on 12 August, when Nebius reports second-quarter results before market open, followed by a conference call. Two weeks later, on 25 August, shareholders gather for the annual meeting. Between those two dates, investors will get their clearest signal yet on whether this is a growth story in consolidation or a momentum trade losing its footing.

The long-term trajectory remains striking. The stock is up 124.35 percent since the start of 2026 and 246.43 percent over twelve months. From its August 2025 low of EUR 45, the shares surged to a June peak of EUR 261 on 22 June. Since then, the picture has soured: the stock sits 36.82 percent below that peak, with July's 18.18 percent decline wiping out meaningful gains.

Technical indicators suggest digestion rather than breakdown. The 50-day moving average stands at EUR 196.57, roughly 16 percent above current prices—a classic sign of an overheated stock releasing pressure. The 200-day average of EUR 122.67 sits more than 34 percent below current levels, indicating the structural uptrend remains intact. The relative strength index reads 46.2, in neutral territory. With 30-day annualised volatility near 148 percent, this whipsaw is the cost of trading in this stock.

The shares hover almost exactly at the 100-day moving average of EUR 162.76, a level that has repeatedly acted as a pivot during the correction. A break below would put the 200-day line in play as the next support zone. A recovery toward the 50-day average would signal consolidation rather than a deeper reset.

The fundamental picture is equally dramatic. Nebius generated USD 399 million in revenue in Q1 2026, a 684 percent year-on-year jump. Management has reaffirmed full-year guidance of USD 3 billion to 3.4 billion, with an annualised run-rate of USD 7 billion to 9 billion targeted by year-end. Market capitalisation stands at EUR 41.91 billion.

But growth at this pace requires capital at this scale. In July, Nebius secured the first secured credit facility in the neocloud sector: a USD 775 million line priced at SOFR plus 250 basis points, maturing in October 2030. The facility is backed by deployed GPU infrastructure and contractually committed customer cash flows. Five days later came a more consequential development: Nvidia disclosed a 9.3 percent stake in Nebius to the SEC, sending shares up nearly 19 percent in a single session on 21 July.

The company is also testing a structural answer to the industry's central tension—demand for compute appears limitless, but building it costs a fortune. Nebius recently unveiled a model in which infrastructure partners operate the Nebius platform in their own data centres, financing and owning hardware themselves. It is a move toward an asset-light approach and a tacit acknowledgment that gigawatt-scale AI factories cannot be built on balance-sheet alone.

When Nebius reports on 12 August, the market will look past headline growth numbers to operational execution. Key questions are progress toward the USD 7 billion-to-9 billion annualised run-rate target and the timeline for the Vera Rubin platform in Finland—specifically, when it transitions from testing to billable customer workloads. That detail feeds directly into quarterly credibility.

Capital expenditure will also face scrutiny. Nebius has guided to USD 16 billion to 22.5 billion in capex for the current year, partially funded by the July credit line. At the 25 August shareholder meeting, investors will vote on the 2025 financial statements, re-election of the entire board, and broad authorisations for share issuances, buybacks, and cancellation of Class C shares.

The stock is caught between two identities: the relentless growth compounder and the volatile momentum name. The two-week window between earnings and the shareholder meeting should determine which one prevails. For now, the shares sit barely below the 50-day average and barely above the 100-day line—a technical knife's edge that mirrors the fundamental debate. Nebius remains the clearest barometer for whether investors believe in a multi-year structural shift in AI infrastructure or a bubble awaiting sharp correction. The next fortnight will offer the first real answer.
