Magnora Data Center has acquired a 2MW facility in Oslo, Norway, and is partnering with Blix.
Magnora Data Center has acquired an operating data center in Oslo, Norway, from an international telecom operator, the company announced this week.
Full details have not been disclosed. The data center totals approximately 1,400 sqm (15,070 sq ft) with up to 2MW of IT load and may be "easily upgraded" to meet the EN 50600 Availability Class 3 / Tier III standard.
Magnora DC will own 75 percent of the facility and Blix Group 25 percent. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The site is connected to existing fiber networks. Blix will connect it to its own fiber network, linking it with the other MDATA and Blix sites in Oslo. A district heating off-taker is being evaluated for the facility.
"This project strengthens our partnership with Blix Group and adds a new, near-term deliverable to our Oslo data center pipeline. Taking over an operating facility gives us a fast track to revenue. With up to 2MW of capacity, strong security and robust fiber connectivity, the site is well suited to serve customers who need low latency, high availability, and their data kept in Norway," said Erik Sneve, chairman of Magnora Data Center.
Magnora was founded in 2001 and transitioned into a dedicated renewable energy investor in 2018, investing in a number of wind, solar, and battery projects. The firm moved into data centers last year and took its Magnora Data Center unit public in June. The company has one facility live in Norway and several more in development across Norway, Estonia, Finland, and Italy.
Magnora said the acquisition is the third site in its metro strategy to form a network of connected urban facilities in Oslo and the surrounding area.
Euronext Oslo-listed Magnora Data Center agreed in August to enter a 50:50 joint venture with Blix Group and acquired a commercial property around Oslo to develop into an AI data center.
Founded in 2008, Blix provides colocation services in multiple data centers in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, London, Amsterdam, and New York.
Blix Solutions' existing Blix NR5 Oslo data center is located in the same building the two companies acquired in August, at Nedre Rommen 5 in eastern Oslo. Opened last year, the facility offers up to 3MW across 1,000 sqm (10,763 sq ft) and hosts around 144 racks.
