Oracle executes 1.7 gigawatts of wind energy supply agreements to power its Texas operations.

Represents one of the largest corporate renewable procurement deals to date, directly supporting high-density AI workload electrification and demonstrating viable PPAs for rapid deployment.

Oracle has signed multiple wind energy supply agreements across Texas, expected to deliver more than 1.7GW of “carbon-free” power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid. “Oracle has set a goal to match 100 percent of AI data center electricity use with carbon-free electricity by 2035,” said Mahesh Thiagarajan, executive vice president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “This announcement marks measurable progress toward that goal and reflects our commitment to building data centers responsibly—protecting the air, water, and land in the communities where we operate, while paying our own way for the energy we use.”

As part of the investment, Oracle has secured wind energy deals across ten projects with major renewable suppliers including Clearway Energy, Engie, RWE, and Scout Clean Energy. The generated power will support operations at Oracle’s Abilene data center campus.

Under a virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with RWE, Oracle will offtake 433MW from three operational West Texas wind farms: Panther Creek I, II, and III, located in Sterling, Howard, and Glasscock counties. Panther Creek I and II were both commissioned in 2008 with capacities of 142MW and 115.5MW, respectively. Panther Creek III came online in 2009 with an initial capacity of 199.5MW, which increased to 215MW following a repowering project completed in 2021.

“America’s growing energy needs require reliable, long-term power solutions delivered at speed and at scale,” said Ingmar Ritzenhofen, CCO, RWE Americas. “With nearly two decades of US development, construction, and operations experience, RWE Americas is helping customers like Oracle secure the power they need while strengthening grid reliability and supporting affordable energy for Texans. Partnerships like this demonstrate how RWE supports large energy users in taking an active role in meeting their energy needs while supporting a reliable, affordable, and resilient power system.”

Oracle’s separate agreement with Engie North America will see the company offtake 568MW of wind energy to support its Texas operations. While specific projects were not disclosed, Engie confirmed the power will be delivered through a portfolio of wind resources.

“Our agreements with Engie advance Oracle’s goal to match 100 percent of our AI data center electricity use with carbon-free electricity by 2035, while supporting long-term economic growth with no cost impact to the state of Texas,” said Julia Robin, head of infrastructure planning and sourcing for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Oracle did not disclose the capacity tied to the remaining agreements. The deals mark Oracle’s second major renewable energy announcement this month, following an earlier Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop 2GW of new renewable capacity in New Mexico. The RFP seeks projects utilizing solar, wind, geothermal, and other renewable technologies, prioritizing those capable of delivering energy on an accelerated timeline.
