Meta has officially energized its $1.2 billion AI-optimized data center in Kuna, Idaho, marking its second dedicated AI campus.

Meta’s data center campus in Kuna, Idaho, is now officially serving traffic. The company first announced plans for the facility in Ada County in early 2022, originally aiming to invest $800 million in developing a 960,000-square-foot (89,187-square-meter) site. The facility was one of around a dozen sites temporarily paused as part of a design re-scoping effort to accommodate AI infrastructure and liquid cooling.

Gary Demasi, vice president of data center development and strategy, confirmed the launch in a LinkedIn post, writing: “Meta's Kuna Data Center is officially serving traffic — our second AI-optimized facility in our fleet, now online in Idaho, representing an overall investment of $1.2 billion.” He noted that the site uses a closed-loop, liquid-cooled system that “uses zero water for most of the year,” and that the company has invested more than $100 million in a dedicated water and wastewater system for the City of Kuna.

Meta has matched the data center’s electricity use with 100 percent clean and renewable energy, having added 645MW of new renewable energy to Ada County. Demasi added: “Building AI infrastructure at this scale is a long-term commitment, and we do it in partnership with the places that we call home — planning years ahead with utilities, funding the systems our facilities depend on, and investing in schools and organizations that will outlast any single building. A data center should leave a community measurably stronger than it found it. That's the standard we're holding ourselves to here in Kuna, and across our communities around the world.”

Meta launched its first AI-optimized data center in July of this year. That facility was located in Temple, Texas, and was similarly one of the sites that saw construction paused in 2022. Kuna is located in the Boise metropolitan area, where Boise has a relatively small data center market. Diode Ventures filed for a project in the area in February 2025.
