Foxconn (Hon Hai) announced NT$42 billion (~$1.3 billion USD) investment in AI computing equipment manufacturing and deployment.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, the world's largest contract electronics maker, has approved a NT$42 billion (US $1.371 billion) investment plan to purchase artificial intelligence equipment for a supercomputing center, according to a regulatory filing made on Monday. The self-financed investment will be deployed over one year beginning in December and aims to expand the company's cloud computing services while accelerating development across three key platforms: smart manufacturing, smart electric vehicles, and smart cities.
The announcement reflects broader strategic ambitions outlined earlier this month by Hon Hai chairman Young Liu, who stated that "AI applications are just beginning" and will expand into all kinds of industries. This investment signals the company's commitment to diversifying beyond its traditional strengths in smartphone and electronics manufacturing by developing new growth drivers in artificial intelligence and related infrastructure.
Also known globally as Foxconn Technology Group, Hon Hai has already demonstrated its commitment to AI development through recent initiatives. In March, the company launched its first traditional Chinese version of an advanced AI large language model to improve analysis efficiency across its smart platforms. In May, Hon Hai announced a partnership with US-based AI chip designer Nvidia Corp to build an AI factory supercomputing center in Taiwan, and by October 14, the company announced plans to introduce Nvidia's 800 VDC data center power architecture at its K-1 AI data center in Kaohsiung, positioning it as a model site for server, data center, and renewable energy integration.
