Nscale plans a US$44.6 billion compute deal with Anthropic for a site in West Virginia.

A deal of this size would make Anthropic a major anchor tenant for Nscale and set a new benchmark for multi-year neocloud offtake contracts, pressuring rivals to secure comparable anchor commitments.

Nscale, an AI infrastructure company, is reportedly in talks to sell US$44.6 billion in compute power to Anthropic at its Monarch data center campus in West Virginia.

The London-based developer would be negotiating its second such agreement with Anthropic, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions. The deal is expected to back a second facility at the Monarch campus.

Anthropic reportedly has existing agreements with Nscale for AI infrastructure. The Monarch campus is planned to have 1.35 GW of capacity in its initial phase, with potential expansion to over 8 GW. The project is supported by a US$20 billion capital investment. Nscale is collaborating with development partners NVIDIA and Caterpillar on the campus infrastructure.

Microsoft had previously intended to lease the Monarch facility but withdrew shortly after signing a letter of intent. A similar situation occurred when Microsoft pulled out of Nscale's AI data center project in Loughton, Essex, citing electricity supply concerns. Nscale stated that it remains committed to the Loughton project and is exploring alternative power sources for that site.
