Anthropic signed $10 billion computing deal with Volta Infra, a Nvidia-backed startup, for long-term AI data center capacity in Norway.

Anthropic has signed a $10 billion, six-year agreement to use computing capacity from Volta Infra Holdings, a months-old AI infrastructure startup backed by Nvidia, according to Bloomberg. Though Anthropic declined to comment and Volta did not respond to requests for comment, Bloomberg identified the AI lab involved in Volta's Tuesday announcement of the unnamed $10 billion deal.

The computing capacity will be delivered alongside Bitdeer Technologies Group at a data center site in Norway with 133 megawatts of capacity powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips. Bitdeer stock rose nearly 10% in premarket trading Tuesday, reflecting investor interest; the Bitcoin mining company has been redirecting some of its facilities away from crypto work toward AI infrastructure.

Volta was founded in January by former executives from Brookfield Asset Management. The startup raised $300 million across seed and Series A financing, reaching a $2.4 billion valuation. Its investors include Azora, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, and Nvidia. Beyond the Anthropic deal, Volta announced a separate $5 billion AI infrastructure program with asset manager Azora to finance future data center projects. The Norway site is the first in a development pipeline the company said exceeds one gigawatt of near-term power capacity across North America and Europe.

Anthropic's commitment to Volta reflects its broader strategy to expand computing capacity as demand for its products grows. The company has pursued computing arrangements with other technology partners, including deals with SpaceX, Advanced Micro Devices, and Akamai Technologies. Separately, Anthropic is in discussions to lease computing power from Meta's data centers, in a potential deal that could be worth as much as $10 billion over two years.
