Hellbender announced its relocation to the Roundhouse at Hazelwood Green and plans to open a manufacturing facility at nearby Mill 19, establishing a 90,000-square-foot campus with a 10-year lease that doubles the company's Pittsburgh footprint. The expansion positions Hellbender to become the only fully U.S.-owned and domestically manufactured Tier 1 supplier for Physical AI hardware and software.

Brian Beyer, co-founder and CEO of Hellbender, stated that demand for Physical AI solutions is accelerating and customers need partners capable of moving quickly from design to production. "Our new facilities give us the infrastructure to scale with that demand, and the opportunity to attract the industry's best talent and build critical AI infrastructure in the United States," Beyer said.

The expansion is supported by the Richard King Mellon Foundation, RIDC, and The Heinz Endowments. Hellbender is also seeking support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through RACP for manufacturing growth.

The company's team is already working from the Roundhouse, which serves as its global headquarters. The open first-floor space will be used to deepen relationships with early-stage companies that can benefit from Hellbender's design and prototyping capabilities, consistent with its mission as a benefit corporation.

The Roundhouse occupies a historic location where Hellbender's CEO previously worked on robotic programs with CMU's NREC, marking a return to where he contributed to Pittsburgh's pioneering work in autonomy. The approximately 60,000-square-foot Mill 19 manufacturing operation is expected to open in early 2027 and will produce integrated perception systems, edge-computing boards and related hardware and software that serve as the eyes and brains of robots and autonomous equipment.

Mill 19's location places Hellbender at the center of Pittsburgh's advanced manufacturing and robotics ecosystem, near Carnegie Mellon University's Manufacturing Futures Institute, the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute, CMU's Robotics Innovation Center, and the University of Pittsburgh's BioForge biomanufacturing center.

The expansion is expected to create new jobs across manufacturing, hardware engineering, product development and operations. While some positions require advanced degrees and specialized experience, many will be accessible through technical training. Hellbender plans to work with local workforce and community partners to create career pathways for residents of Hazelwood and surrounding communities.

Brett Phillips, Chief Revenue Officer of Hellbender, noted that advanced degrees are not necessary for many AI positions. "We're the only AI company hiring everyday yinzers. The move follows Hellbender's May seed round of 12.5 million dollars, which is supporting the rollout of the company's edge AI platforms, on-edge camera line, team growth and continued scaling of domestic manufacturing capabilities.
