Mixx Technologies, a venture-backed deep-tech company building interconnect infrastructure for hyperscale AI systems, announced two strategic moves that position India as a critical node in the global AI semiconductor supply chain. The company acquired Sophic Silicon Technologies, a Bengaluru-based semiconductor IP design firm beneficiary of India's Design Linked Incentive program, whose analog mixed-signal expertise will form the foundation of Mixx's HBxIO optical interconnect platform. Simultaneously, Mixx established a manufacturing collaboration with Kaynes Semicon Private Limited, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test specialist and beneficiary of India's Production Linked Incentive scheme, to create a dedicated test and assembly facility for optical integrated circuits.

The two announcements address a critical bottleneck in AI infrastructure: GPU utilization in large clusters is increasingly constrained not by compute capacity but by data movement between chips. As cloud providers deploy accelerators at unprecedented scale, interconnect performance becomes the binding constraint on efficiency and token cost. Co-packaged optics, which integrates photonic engines directly alongside ASICs and accelerators to move data at optical speeds with significantly lower power consumption than electrical interconnects, represents the most effective solution to this problem.

Sophic Silicon's acquired team, with expertise in advanced CMOS process design and high-speed networking, has designed the analog mixed-signal interface layer that forms the critical electronic-photonic bridge in Mixx's HBxIO platform, a multi-terabit optical interconnect architecture purpose-built for large-scale AI inference and training. The acquisition brings the full team and IP portfolio into Mixx immediately, with operations continuing to expand in Bengaluru.

Mixx's collaboration with Kaynes Semicon creates an integrated domestic manufacturing pathway for HBxIO components, enabling faster development cycles and the end-to-end control essential for pushing optical IC performance limits. Kaynes Semicon brings deep semiconductor assembly and packaging expertise backed by PLI-supported capital investment and institutional credibility.

For India, these announcements represent more than offshoring. They signal the country's emergence as a primary node in the global AI semiconductor value chain, with design, manufacturing, and intellectual property origination happening at global scale.
