Nvidia aims to raise $500B+ capital for AI infrastructure buildout across compute, power, and facility partnerships.
Nvidia announced partnerships with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and KKR to create financial platforms targeting more than $500 billion in funding for artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to Fortune, the majority of capital is expected to come from third-party investors rather than Nvidia's own balance sheet.
The initiative is designed to finance computing infrastructure for AI deployments. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang characterized AI computing as productive infrastructure. To sweeten the proposal, Nvidia is offering to cover up to 25% of the residual value of equipment under certain agreements.
Wall Street initially received the announcement positively. Morgan Stanley and Bank of America identified Nvidia's chips as an unusually financeable asset class. However, Stratechery author Ben Thompson raised concerns, arguing that leveraging the assets of security-conscious investors to finance large quantities of graphics processing units represents a novel and potentially risky approach.
